David M. Smothers 57 Oblong, IL. died Tuesday May 15, 2001 at his residence. He was born December 29, 1943 in Robinson,Illinois and was the son of Monroe Allen Smothers and Juanita Ellen Lansbery. On April 14, 1965 he married Betty Sue Neeley.

David retired from Marathon Oil Company in 1993 as a Turn Around and Maintance Planner. He was veteran of the U.S. Army. He was amember of the Evanglical United Methodist Church Oblong and most recently was a member of Prior Grove Baptist Church rural Oblong. David was also a member of the Oblong American Legion Post #219.

David is survived by his wife Betty; 3 sons and daughter's-In-Laws James "J.D." & Beth Smothers,Troy & Sarah Smothers and Matt Smothers; 3 Grandchildren Conner, Courtney and Destiny Smothers; mother Juanita & Glenn Hulen; 1 Brother Mark Goff; 2 Sisters & Brothers-In-Law Sharon & Charles Salesman and Diane & Roger Henry and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his father Monroe Smothers.

Full military rites will be given at the Graveside Services by Oblong American Legion Post #219.
